Freelance Writing for Beginners in 2025! New Changes.

Freelance Writing 2025

Hey, freelance writer! Long time no word! How's your freelance writing in 2025?

Do you still get jobs, or is AI taking over? I can't believe I'm still here, more than five years later, writing for a living.

My writing journey keeps getting better with each passing year. I've had my hands full, which is a huge blessing.

Can you believe I still work with clients I met in 2018/2019? Let's dive into the insights.

How's freelance writing in 2025? Can you still find high-paying writing jobs?

Is Freelance Writing Worth in 2025?

100%! If you're considering starting a freelance business, go for it.

However, unlike 5 years ago, AI can write any content type in seconds!

While many writers feel AI has taken over the industry, there are still excellent opportunities for skilled writers like you.

Remember, more often than not, AI creates crappy content which may not satisfy Google Content Guidelines, so your human creative services are in demand.

If you're considering starting a freelance business or returning to the industry, this is the right time.

The critical thing to note is that understanding how AI works and how you can use it to simplify your work is necessary.

Do I use AI for my work? Yes, I've been using tools like Grammarly to edit my pieces, and I use ChatGPT for research and content brief creation.

Writing your work from scratch is essential, as clients prefer human-written content over AI.

Why would someone pay you to use AI? They could as well do it themselves and save their money.

What's the Future of Freelance Writing?

Do you think AI is your biggest competitor? Well, the numbers say a different thing.

A recent survey shows that 81% of respondents have never lost their clients due to AI.

Also, I still see tons of job postings for writers on popular job boards and Linked In.

If you're determined to take your writing business to the next step, nothing stops you from achieving that.

If you think the industry is changing, you must evolve and adapt to win!

Is AI Replacing Freelance Writing in 2025?

Not a chance!

In fact, it creates more work opportunities for skilled content creators.

Businesses understand the importance of publishing high-quality content and won't risk hurting their brand with lousy AI content.

How Much Do Freelance Writers Make in 2025?

The average base salary for a writer in 2025 is $30/hr.

Writers with more experience earn more money; some even charge $2/word!

To earn more money as a freelance writer, you should be outstanding in all business areas.

Do you have a portfolio or a website? If not, you can set one up fast.

Having these things shows your credibility and sets you apart from other freelancers.

I started my business in 2019 and focused on creating a strong portfolio to showcase my skills.

I created blogs for outlets like FreelancersFAQs, Inkwell Editorial, Imperfectly Perfect Mama, and many others.

Writing for other blogs allows you to create a portfolio without a website.

So, how do you find blogs to write to? There are so many ways to find outlets that need content contributors.

First, identify the niche/topic you want to specialize in.

For example, if you want to be a freelance personal finance writer, you must find and write personal finance blogs for them.

You can use Google search to find blogs accepting contributors. LinkedIn, Facebook, and X are also great places to find outlets.

How Should You Charge for Your Freelance Writing Services in 2025?

Pricing is undoubtedly the most challenging part of running a freelance writing business.

You don't know whether you're overpricing or underpricing your services. I know how that feels.

If you dread your clients' question, "How much do you charge?" you're in the right place.

Should you charge per hour, per word, or per project? Should you ask for an upfront or after-project payment?

Setting your rate depends on many things: your experience, niche, project requirements, overhead costs, and taxes.

Research industry rates for your specific niche and calculate your rate to fit those standards.

The last thing you want is to underprice yourself. Remember, you deserve fair pay, even if you're new in the writing industry.

Join freelance writing communities like Freelance Writer's Den and ask about rates. You'll get a glimpse of what you should charge.
